Prayer List: See You At The Pole

This week of September 25th to October 1st is the Global Week of Student Prayer and students will gather to pray at school flagpoles during the annual See You at the Pole event on Wednesday. The theme of this year’s event is “we cry out” as students are encouraged to be a generation seeking after God (Psalm 24:6).

Prayer List

* Pray for the body of Christ to be “one” on school campuses. (John 17:21)
* Pray for Christian students not to be discouraged when they are criticized by their peers for participating in See You at the Pole.
* Pray for Christian students to grow in faith and in the knowledge of God’s Word.
* Pray for Christian parents to be godly examples for their kids and to help prepare them daily for school.
* Pray for Christians serving as school faculty and administrators to teach and lead with integrity.
* Pray for the Holy Spirit to convict lost school personnel and students of their need for salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.
* Pray for teachers and church youth workers to avoid sexual temptation and not take advantage of their students.
* Pray for churches, student ministries and parents to effectively disciple students.
* Pray for homeschooling parents to faithfully teach their children.

Wars leave behind innocent victims.

Reuters reports, “The defense ministry in Russia, which has been aiding Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad in the civil war, said U.S. jets had killed more than 60 Syrian soldiers in four air strikes by two F-16s and two A-10s coming from the direction of Iraq.”

In another bombing 20 aid workers were killed. According to The Washington Post, “The United Nations and other relief agencies suspended all humanitarian convoys across combat lines in Syria on Tuesday …”

Prayer List

* Pray for the Holy Spirit to comfort the families and friends of the deceased.
* Pray for healing for the injured.
* Pray for peace in Syria.
* Pray for Islamic State soldiers, other Islamic terrorist groups, and rebel groups (attempting to overthrow Syria’s president) to stop fighting and become peacemakers.
* Pray for the Gospel to saturate Syria.
* Pray for persecuted Christians to boldly share their faith.

The unemployed often face poverty, fear and discouragement and their numbers are growing rapidly in some countries.  “More than 1.7 million Brazilians have lost their jobs over the last 12 months, according to Labor Ministry data, taking the total unemployed population to an estimated 11.8 million,” reports the website Brazzil.

Prayer List

* Pray for the unemployed to obtain employment.
* Pray for financial assistance and emotional support for people struggling while looking for a job.
* Pray for entrepreneurs to grow new businesses that will put people to work.
* Pray for the Holy Spirit to comfort and guide the discouraged job seekers.
* Pray for Christians to minister to the unemployed and to serve faithfully in the marketplace.

PBS reports, “From 1965 to Labor Day weekend this year, more than 35,100 people — roughly the population of Tupelo, Mississippi — were murdered in Chicago, according to Chicago Police Department records and the Chicago Tribune.” More than 500 people have been murdered in Chicago in 2016.

* Pray for the Holy Spirit to comfort the murder victims’ families and friends.
* Pray for gang members and drug dealers to repent of their sins and to be born again through faith in Jesus Christ.
* Pray for unemployed males to find employment.
* Pray for gun owners to practice self control while handling their weapons.
* Pray for suicidal people to seek out help.

Another school year provides opportunities for student ministries. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, “Over 50 million students are heading off to approximately 98,300 public elementary and secondary schools for the fall 2016 term, and before the school year is out, an estimated $584 billion will be spent related to their education.”
