Lima, Peru

According to The Guardian, “Sixty-seven people have been killed and thousands more forced to evacuate by intense rains which damaged 115,000 homes and destroyed more than 100 bridges in Peru’s worst floods in recent memory.” Deutsche Welle reports that “a state of emergency declared in more than 800 cities” and  “99,475 Peruvians had lost everything since the beginning of the year.”

Prayer List: Lethal Landslide Strikes Ethiopian Garbage Dump

50 people died when a landslide in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, struck a garbage dump. Reuters reports,”The landslide late on Saturday also destroyed 49 dwellings and left 28 people injured …”

The garbage dump was home for the victims who earned a living by scavenging through trash for items to recycle or resale.

Prayer List: Sex Abuse Rampant in Nursing Homes

CNN reports, “The unthinkable is happening at facilities throughout the country: Vulnerable seniors are being raped and sexually abused by the very people paid to care for them.”

CNN investigated this tragedy and discovered that from 2013 through 2016 “the federal government has cited more than 1,000 nursing homes for mishandling or failing to prevent alleged cases of rape, sexual assault and sexual abuse at their facilities during this period.”

Prayer List: Athletes at Baptist University Accused of 52 Rapes

In a lawsuit filed last week against Baylor University, a Baylor graduate alleges, “Based upon investigation, in the span of four years — 2011 through 2014 — Plaintiff is aware of at least 52 acts of rape, including five gang rapes, by not less than 31 different football players under [Coach] Brile.”

In 2017 we should prayerfully work towards completing the ministry that God has given us because each day brings us closer to the return of Jesus Christ. Our time on earth is limited.

Prayer List

* Thank God for providing for our needs and being with us during 2016.
* Confess any sins.
* Pray for God to raise up workers to bring in a global spiritual harvest.
* Pray for the Holy Spirit to prepare our steps and to give us discernment so that we will not stray from God’s will.
* Pray for opportunities to share the love and Gospel of Jesus Christ with family members, friends, co-workers, neighbors and enemies.
* Pray for the Holy Spirit to build a sense of urgency in the body of Christ, the Church, to complete the ministry Jesus has given us.

Large deadly explosions in a fireworks marketplace disrupts the Christmas season in Tultepec, Mexico. CBS News reports, “Of the 33 dead, the state listed 10 as unidentified. In some cases, the bodies were so badly burned that DNA identification will be necessary.”

Prayer Lists: Terrorist Strikes in Germany and Turkey

Turkish police officer Mevlut Mert Altintas assassinated Russia’s Ambassador to Turkey on Monday. Altintas shouted “Allahu akbar! Do not forget Aleppo! Do not forget Syria! Do not forget Aleppo! Do not forget Syria!” before murdering Andrey Karlov who was visiting an arts center. Altintas was gunned down at the scene of the crime. According to CNN, “The shooting occurred a day before diplomats from Turkey, Iran and Russia are scheduled to meet in Moscow to discuss the situation in the besieged Syrian city of Aleppo.”

On the same day in Berlin, Germany, a terrorist killed 12 people by driving a truck into a crowded marketplace. Reuters reports, “Forty-five people were injured, 30 severely.” Terrorist group ISIS claims the driver was one of their operatives.

* Pray for the Holy Spirit to comfort the afflicted in Turkey and Germany.
* Pray for the wounds of the injured to heal quickly with minimal pain.
* Pray for the German terrorist and any collaborators to be captured and brought to justice.
* Pray for the safety of Russian, Turkish and German authorities investigating these crimes.
* Pray for the Holy Spirit to convict terrorists of the hate in their hearts and to draw them to repentance and salvation through Jesus Christ.

More than 200 people were killed Saturday in southern Nigeria when the roof of Reigners Bible Church collapsed. According to UPI, “The church was packed with worshipers to consecrate the church pastor’s becoming a bishop when the roof collapse a few minutes after services began.”
