Prayer List: 2016 Election Day

As Americans prepare for voting day, we can pray that God’s will be done in a divided nation.

The Bible tells us to pray for our leaders: “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.” 1 Timothy 2:1-2 ESV

Prayer List

* Pray for homes divided by politics so that husband and wives as well as parents and children will be reconciled.
* Pray for the Holy Spirit to give politicians and voters discernment so that people will recognize right and wrong regarding immorality in politics.
* Pray for “lost” politicians to recognize their need for a savior and to turn to Christ to be born again.
* Pray for politicians to repent that have slandered their opponents and made false promises while running for office.
* Pray for politicians to seek wise counsel and to select honest people for political appointments.
* Pray for politicians to establish the right priorities so that God is first and government is not an idol.
* Pray for journalists to honestly report the political news.
* Pray for Americans to place their faith in God and not become hopeless following the election results.

* Pray for the Holy Spirit to strengthen persecuted believers.
* Pray for persecuted Christians to grow in the knowledge of the Word of God and to have discernment as they live for Christ.
* Pray for justice for Christians falsely accused of blasphemy in Muslim nations.
* Pray for Christians in closed nations to boldly share the love of Christ and the Gospel with their families, friends, neighbors, classmates, coworkers and enemies.
* Pray for job opportunities for Christians facing discrimination in the workplace.

Event organizer Fight The New Drug reports, “Girls and young women are under a lot of pressure to give boys and men what they want, to become a real life embodiment of what the boys have watched in porn, adopting exaggerated roles and behaviors and providing their bodies as mere sex aids. Growing up in today’s porn culture, girls quickly learn that they are service stations for male gratification and pleasure.”

Fight the New Drug cites a scary example of the sexual revolution …

A male high school student said to a girl: “If you [give me oral sex] I’ll give you a kiss.”

Prayer List

* Pray for children, teenagers and adults viewing pornography to discover what God intended for human sexuality and replace their porn viewing habits with healthy media choices.
* Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in the lives of the porn distributors, filmmakers, actors, actresses, models, photographers, prostitutes, and sex traffickers by convicting them of sin and placing within them a desire to know Jesus Christ and to be holy.
* Pray for sex addicts to be set free from their addiction.
* Pray for Christians counselors, pastors, priests and youth workers to effectively minister to porn addicts and people working in the porn industry.
* Pray for Christians struggling with porn to develop self control and to replace the lust in their hearts with true love.

Christianity Daily reports, “Pakistani Supreme Court has delayed the hearing of Christian woman Asia Bibi’s blasphemy case, after a member of the bench recused himself from the case.”

According to the BBC, “Asia Bibi was the first woman to be sentenced to death under Pakistan’s blasphemy laws and her case is one of the most controversial … Her husband and four daughters live in hiding and say they have received many death threats.”

Prayer List: Thousands More Homeless After Hurricane Matthew Strikes Haiti

Hurricane Matthew adds thousands more to Haiti’s homeless problem.

According to Reuters, “Hurricane Matthew’s trail of destruction in Haiti stunned those emerging from the aftermath on Friday, with the number of dead soaring to 842, tens of thousands homeless and outbreaks of cholera already claiming more lives.”

The Weather Channel reports that”3,214 homes were destroyed along the southern peninsula.” USA Today reports, “Some 55,000 Haitians left homeless by that earthquake were still living in shelters when Hurricane Matthew struck.”

The hurricane is expected to strike the Florida coast on Friday morning. According to ABC News, “About 8 million Florida residents scrambled to make last-minute preparations today as the storm strengthened from a Category 3 to a Category 4 hurricane …”

* Pray for anyone still trapped in flood waters, mud and destroyed houses to be rescued.
* Pray for the Holy Spirit to comfort the families and friends of people that were killed in the storm.
* Pray for the spiritual, emotional and financial health of people whose homes, apartments and businesses were flooded.
* Pray for the safety of first responders and disaster relief volunteers.
* Pray for Christian disaster relief volunteers and chaplains to have opportunities to befriend and share the Gospel with flooding victims.
* Pray for economic growth and job opportunities in Haiti.
* Pray for Haiti’s politicians, religious leaders and business leaders to have discernment.
* Pray for Floridians to be prepared for when the hurricane arrives.

The Washington Post reports on a new Public Religion Research Institute study:

“People whose parents divorced when they were children are significantly more likely to grow up not to be religious as adults, the study found. Thirty-five percent of the children of divorced parents told pollsters they are now nonreligious, compared with 23 percent of people whose parents were married when they were children.”

This week of September 25th to October 1st is the Global Week of Student Prayer and students will gather to pray at school flagpoles during the annual See You at the Pole event on Wednesday. The theme of this year’s event is “we cry out” as students are encouraged to be a generation seeking after God (Psalm 24:6).

* Pray for the body of Christ to be “one” on school campuses. (John 17:21)
* Pray for Christian students not to be discouraged when they are criticized by their peers for participating in See You at the Pole.
* Pray for Christian students to grow in faith and in the knowledge of God’s Word.
* Pray for Christian parents to be godly examples for their kids and to help prepare them daily for school.
* Pray for Christians serving as school faculty and administrators to teach and lead with integrity.
* Pray for the Holy Spirit to convict lost school personnel and students of their need for salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.
* Pray for teachers and church youth workers to avoid sexual temptation and not take advantage of their students.

Wars leave behind innocent victims.

Reuters reports, “The defense ministry in Russia, which has been aiding Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad in the civil war, said U.S. jets had killed more than 60 Syrian soldiers in four air strikes by two F-16s and two A-10s coming from the direction of Iraq.”

In another bombing 20 aid workers were killed. According to The Washington Post, “The United Nations and other relief agencies suspended all humanitarian convoys across combat lines in Syria on Tuesday …”

The unemployed often face poverty, fear and discouragement and their numbers are growing rapidly in some countries.  “More than 1.7 million Brazilians have lost their jobs over the last 12 months, according to Labor Ministry data, taking the total unemployed population to an estimated 11.8 million,” reports the website Brazzil.
